Beïnvloedt de toename van recreatie op de Veluwe de vruchtbaarheid van edelherten?
Recreatie behoort wereldwijd tot de top drie van de meest gemelde bedreigingen voor beschermde gebieden en soorten. In Europa, delen van Azië en Zuid-Amerika staat recreatie zelfs op de eerste plaats.1 Waarom vormt recreatie zo’n ernstige bedreiging voor dieren? De meeste bekende effecten hebben betrekking op veranderingen in diergedrag, die vaak op korte termijn door individuen kunnen worden gecompenseerd. De langetermijneffecten, zoals mogelijke gevolgen voor de vruchtbaarheid, zijn echter grotendeels onbekend. Om hier meer inzicht in te krijgen, analyseerden we gegevens over edelherten en recreanten die gedurende een periode van 31 jaar op de Zuidwest-Veluwe verzameld zijn. -

Zonnepanelen, is er een effect op het klimaat onder het dak?
Op het moment van schrijven, eind februari, ontluiken de eerste krokussen. Het zonnetje laat zich wat vaker zien en de eerste merels roepen het bij het ochtendgloren van de daken. Kortom, de lente is in aantocht! Wie zonnepanelen heeft, ziet de opbrengst weer oplopen. Maar onder dat zonnepanelendak kunnen ook vogels en vleermuizen leven. Wat betekent dat? -

Nieuwe hoogwatervluchtplaats voor bevers beschermt de dijk
Op 27 februari 2025 is de eerste drijvende hoogwatervluchtplaats voor bevers geplaatst bij Oijen in Brabant. Gravende dieren zoals bevers zijn een risico voor onze dijken, vooral tijdens hoge waterstanden langs de rivier. Door bevers een aantrekkelijk alternatief te bieden verminderen we de kans op graverij en verhogen we de waterveiligheid. -

De Zoogdiervereniging vraagt in 2025 aandacht voor alle verschillende woelmuissoorten en laat zien hoe leuk, bijzonder en nuttig deze kleine zoogdieren zijn. Dé woelmuis bestaat niet. In Nederland leven wel vijf soorten woelmuizen. Tijdens het Jaar van de woelmuis stellen we de verschillende woelmuizen uitgebreider voor en vertellen we meer over hun specifieke eigenschappen en leefgebieden. -
